Rob Ronconi's 1/72 Donryu

Rob Ronconi has kindly responded to the invitation for Ki-49 models with these images of his own splendid Donryu also built from the 1/72 Hasegawa kit and representing an aircraft of the 2nd Chutai of Hiko Dai 74 Sentai in an elaborate tri-colour camouflage scheme.

The build was straight from the box with colours mixed from Tamiya paints and applied with Rob's Iwata HP-C Plus airbrush. Rob comments that the very small windows on the tail gun 'gazebo' were enough to drive him to the optometrist.

With special thanks to Rob for sharing these images.

Very nice model! Must have been quite a challenge with all the tiny windows.

Love seeing these models of bombers, don't see them nearly enough. Love this camouflage scheme, as well. Great job, Rob and thanks for sharing with us.

Superb model. Looks like it needed a lot of attention to create such an attractive paint job - overall camo as well as all the details. The amount of frames on every transparency must have driven bombardiers and gunners to the optometrist, too...

Stunning Donryu Rob. I was hoping someone would send in pictures of a three color scheme. I wanted to do that one too. And even with the Eduard mask set that tail position was a real challenge. Truly microscopic.

My goodness! I go without a computer for a couple of months and there's a deluge of gorgeous Japanese twin builds all over the place. Something I'll have to catch up on Christmas Eve day when the weather turns ugly.

Well done!
